Microwave Road-stipendiet till de bästa exjobben under 2018

Den 8:e maj delade Microwave Road ut sitt stipendium till de bästa examensarbetena inom “Antenn- och mikrovågsteknik” utförda under 2018. Prisceremonin ägde rum i samband med Microwave Roads event om Elektromagnetiska simuleringar på Chalmers. Stipendiekommittén hade fått in flera starka nomineringar i år, och Microwave Road valde därför att belöna fyra exjobb. De fyra pristagarna är:

Martin Anderberg, “Design of a 183 GHz Subharmonic Mixer Using Membrane Integrated GaAs Schottky Diode Technology”.

Lowisa Hanning, “Pulse Shaping of Radar Transmitters Compensation of Memory Effects through Digital Pre-distortion”.

Rikard Reinhagen, “The technical feasibility of providing passenger Wi-Fi with 60 GHz WiGig networks on board trains”.

Frida Strömbeck, “Energy Efficient High Data Rate RF-DAC based PAM Modulator – A MMIC solution using an InP-based DHBT-process at Millimeterwave Band”.

Ida Kläppevik and Johan Bremer awarded for best master's theses

Ida Kläppevik and Johan Bremer have been awarded with the Microwave Road Scholarship for best master's thesis 2017, in the area of antenna and microwave engineering.

Ida Kläppevik gets the award of 10 000 SEK and a diploma for her thesis “Analysis, construction and evaluation of radial power divider/combiner”. Johan Bremer is awarded for his thesis “Compensation of thermal effects by dynamic bias in low noise amplifiers”. The winners got their scholarships at the Microwave Road seminar on Space and Satellite on April 25, handed over to them by Johan Carlert, chairman of Microwave Road.

Microwave Road Seminar: Connected Vehicle 2017-11-09

On November 9, Provinn was hosting a Microwave Road seminar with the theme “Connected Vehicles” at the office on Kvarnbergsgatan. More than 40 people attended the evening seminar and listened to invited technical discoursers from Qamcom, AB Volvo, Volvo Cars and Zenuity. Most of the participants also enjoyed the after work with drinks and a light meal that took place at the top floor.

Den 24e april delade Microwave Road ut sitt stipendium till de bästa examensarbetena inom “Antenn- och mikrovågsteknik” utförda under 2016.

Årets pristagare var Marika Svensson för examensarbetet “Properties of sparse array antennas – a trade-off investigation” och Gergely Hrubó för “Full 3D modeling of waveguide-embedded frequency multiplier arrays”. På bilden tar Marika och Gergely emot sina diplom av Microwave Roads ordförande Dag Jungenfelt. Förutom diplomet utgörs priset av 10 000 kr per pristagare.

Microwave Road Seminar: What is 5G?

Is 5G just yet another generation of mobile networks that will give us even faster mobile broadband?
Is 5G the magic touch that will harmonise all existing and foreseeable use cases of wireless communications under one umbrella?
Or….is it just whatever comes after 4G?


Come and listen to what some colleagues within your Microwave Road network believe are the essentials of next generation mobile communications. Experts representing academia, system vendors and a start-up will give you some of the pieces that will eventually form the 5G jig-saw!

About the speakers:

Tommy Svensson is Associate Professor in Communication Systems at Chalmers University of Technology, where he is leading the research on air interface and wireless backhaul networking technologies for future wireless systems. He received a Ph.D. in Information theory from Chalmers in 2003, and he has worked at Ericsson AB with core networks, radio access networks, and microwave transmission products. His main research interests are in design and analysis of physical layer algorithms, multiple access, resource allocation, cooperative systems, moving networks and satellite networks. He has co-authored three books and more than 120 journal and conference papers.

Mats Andersson is Vice President Sales and Business Development at Bluetest AB. He has more than 30 years international wireless and telecom experience working at various engineering and management positions at Ericsson, Saab-Ericsson Space, Bluetest, and Huawei. He is the Chairman of the Board of Forsway Scandinavia AB, MUMIMO AB, and SweGaN AB and a Board member of Icomera AB and Bluetest AB.

Jonas Hansryd has more than 20 years’ R&D experience in advanced communication systems. He joined Ericsson Research in 2008 and is now responsible for Ericsson’s long time research on microwave and mm-wave radio products. His research topics cover high-capacity microwave links to meet the data-rate, latency- and traffic-volume demands on mobile backhaul created by LTE and future 5G systems. He has been involved in the development of high-capacity 70/80GHz microwave links, MIMO microwave-communication systems at 100GHz and beyond and 5G advanced antenna systems. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Chalmers and was a visiting researcher at the department of Applied Engineering Physics, Cornell University, NY, USA between 2003 and 2004.

Mats Högberg Site and Base station manager for the Huawei Gothenburg office. He has more than 20 years experience in telecom, antennas and base station, from 2G to 5G. The last six years at Huawei, first as the Base station system expert and the last three years the site manager, working with leading Massive MIMO and 5G base station research with a vibrant team of 25 highly qualified engineers, hungry for innovations.

Title: Antennas-on-chip in Silicon technologies
Speaker: Prof. Dr. ir. Bart Smolders, Eindhoven University of Technology
Abstract: Recent breakthroughs in the development of CMOS and BiCMOS silicon semiconductor technologies have opened the opportunity to develop low-cost single-chip integrated millimeter-wave (mm-wave) transceivers with integrated antennas. This development is further accelerated by several commercial applications which are currently in the development phase: (i) the expected roll-out in 2020-2025 of 5G mm-wave wireless communication operating at 30 GHz, (ii) 60 GHz Wifi, and (iii) 80 GHz car radar.  At these frequencies, two integration strategies for the  antenna element are being investigated: the Antenna-on-Chip (AoC) solutions and the Antenna-in-Package (AiP) solutions, i.e., antennas that are integrated in the package technology of the integrated circuit (IC). In the presentation, some background information on IC and packaging technologies will be provided and several examples of prototypes for various applications will be given.

Biography: Bart Smolder

Bart Smolders was born in Hilvarenbeek, the Netherlands in 1965. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 1989 and 1994, respectively. From 1989 to 1991, he worked as an IC Designer at FEL-TNO, The Hague. From 1994 to 1997, he was a Radar System Designer with Thales, the Netherlands. From 1997 to 2000, he was project leader of the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) with the Netherlands Foundation for Research in Astronomy (ASTRON). From 2000 to 2010, he has been with NXP (formerly Philips) Semiconductors, The Netherlands, responsible for the innovation in the RF business line. Since 2010, he is a full-time professor at the TU/e in the Electromagnetics Group with special interest in antenna systems and applications. He currently leads a large European project on mm-wave 5G wireless communications (SILIKA), in which Chalmers University also participates. He is chairman of the IEEE Benelux section and chairman of the NERG (Nederlands Radio- en Elektronica Genootschap). Next to his research activities, he is the dean of the Electrical Engineering department.


Bluetest - a world leader in wireless testing

Fredagen den 9:e september hålls ett seminarium om wireless testing och Bluestest på EIT Digital Open Area i Electrum Kista, Stockholm. Talare är Mats Andersson, Vice President of Business Development and Sales (EMEA) at Bluetest AB.

This talk will give a brief background of Bluetest’s revolutionary test technology (reverberation chamber) and focus on how it can be used to quickly improve the performance of today’s (4G, 802.11ac, BT) and future (5G) wireless products as e.g. mobile phones, routers, small and large IoT and M2M devices as well as multi-antenna micro and macro base stations.
